The Conservation Program of Nature-inspired Companies

Nature works by reciprocity.

Consider a hummingbird drinking nectar. As the flower nourishes it, the hummingbird simultaneously transfers pollen collected previously to the flower’s stigma, causing it to produce seeds, and hence, the next generation of flowers from which the hummingbird – and its offspring – will drink nectar from once again. It’s a cycle. Wolves target the weakest elk in a herd, improving the elk population’s gene pool, thereby increasing the likelihood that elk will persist as a species and, thus, continue to provide food for wolves. Everywhere one looks, Nature works because life produces conditions conducive to more life.

Business works best through reciprocity, too.

Businesses whose products and services nourish customers and the environment – upon which every business ultimately depends – have the greatest chance of succeeding over the long haul. For companies with products, services, or savings inspired by Nature, reciprocating Nature’s generosity makes economic sense, as well as intuitive sense to employees, shareholders, and the public.

That’s why we created Innovation for Conservation, the biodiversity conservation program of Nature-inspired companies and inventors.

The idea is intuitively simple: not only can companies revolutionize their products and services by partnering with Nature for design inspiration, they can reinvest in natural capital to protect the headwaters of this innovation resource, and at the same time, demonstrate their gratitude to Nature for benefits already reaped. For example, companies can donate a percentage of profits from products that were inspired by Nature to conservation efforts that help protect the habitats of these helpful organisms. After all, shouldn’t we properly honor the organisms and ecosystems that evolved these ingenious, sustainable ideas, and thank them for showing us the way?

When companies and inventors support biomimicry-based conservation, the circle becomes complete.

So come join us!  We can create a sustainable way of life both profitable and nourishing of more life.
